Giving Back to the Community

Gonna Group Club Branch

The Clare Lions Gonna Group is a hands-on not-for profit group of youngish men (between 18 & 55 yo) who assist predominantly elderly people in need within the wider Clare Valley region of South Australia.

The Gonna Group was founded in 2019 by Glenn Hayes, Ryan Wood and Ronald van Diessen. The Gonna Group is a stand-alone Club Branch of the Clare Lions.

Our Mission

Our main mission is voluntary individual assistance of elderly people with once off jobs in and around their home / yard. Elderly people who can’t financially afford to have these jobs done.

Secondary goal is assisting people who due to illness, disability, or misfortune can’t do those tasks and can’t financially afford to have it done. Other hands-on projects can be submitted to the group too and will be assessed per case by the Gonna Group Board.

Our Social Connection

Equally important is also to create an opportunity for youngish men to reach out to others. The mental health component of the group is an important side goal. The satisfaction of helping others is a great tool for improving your head space and feeling good about self-worth and what you can do for others within the community. Therefore the social aspect of the Gonna Group during and after working bees is vital with a few drinks and a BBQ!

The Gonna Group aims to maintain a feel-good group atmosphere where members feel welcomed and accepted and feel good about the work they do. The Gonna Group currently has about 10 members and aims to have a larger pool of enthusiastic guys to help with jobs and projects.

This is not something that will consume all your free time, you are in control of what and how much you wish to do. If a job comes up, we will contact our volunteers and if you can help out we will book you in for that part of the day. If you can’t ,we fully understand!

We are also happy to chat about any other roles that will strengthen our mission you might think that could be useful, such as organising fundraising events. Basically, if you are keen to help others, meet new people, make new friends, have a bit of fun and a chat, we would love to hear from you!

The Yellow Caravan

Our yellow tool caravan has been remodelled for mixed use to function as a mobile hub, storage & transport for tools, preparation room for food during breaks, shelter from the weather and to display the businesses and organizations sponsoring the group.

The caravan goes to our working bees and all tools will always be on board. This caravan & the tools were financially made possible by Beyond Bank Australia and grants from Clare and Gilbert Valley Council community asset grant and the Australian Lions Foundation, with special mention to Mitre10 Clare, Stihl Shop Clare, Clare Signs & Caltex Clare for donations given.
